CLEARING WAY FOR LOAN TO BRITAIN

Tlie Senate, by 45 votes to 40, re.jected a proposal by Senntor AlcEarland requiring Britain ' to yield title to Atlanlic military bases and open other Empire areas to American c.ojnmercial use, to obtain the proposed loln. Just before the vote was taken, the majority leader. Mr. Barkley, said the adoption of Mr. McFarlaiul's amendinept would sound the death kneli of the proposed loan. The Associated Press savs the defeat of Mr. McFarlaiul's amendinent apparently clears the wav for Renate approval of tlie loan authorisation without maior amendment.
