TWO MORE SEVERE QUAKES

Received Thursdav, 7.30 p.m. NEW YORK, May 8. Fordham Universitv seismograph rec.orded two scvere earthquake shocks in the Soiitli Bacilic. The tremors wero felt at 5.39 a.m. and 5.52 a.m. G-\LT, 9700 miles distant from New York and probably between the East -Indies and New Guinea. A Wellington message states that the Dominion Observatory recorded a fairly substantial shock on Wednesdav. It began at 5.32 a.m. and continued for about an hour and a half. It is estimated tlie disturbance was about 5000 miles from New Zealand and considerably further than in the vicinitv of New Guinea. Hince then *several small shocks not considered to he loeal, have been recorded.
