It declared the world food gituation was likely to remain critical for four or five years. It is estimated Europe and the Far East would need to irnport in 1917 30,000,000 metric tons of wheat to maintain even minimuni subsistence levels, whereas the ampunt availahle for export from the. four ehief exporting countries was not likely to exceed 20,000,000 tons.
