MODERN TRANSPORT TO TAKE J FORCE
AUCKLAND, Alay 7. About 1500 men will probably make •up the first contingent of^the J Force to travel to Japan on theiEmpire Pride, which is expected to arriye in Xew Zealand for this. purpose toward the end of the month. The Enipire Pride is a 9248-ton motorship built during the war espeeially for British Alinistry of War transport and 1500 is approximately the n.9rmal compleiuent of troops she can earrv with cornfort. Although no cificial pronouneernent has yet been made 011 the subject, it is thought likely that about 1000 of the 1500 men wlio Will sail on the E^npire Pride will be from the northern military dfttriet. The district 's quota of 1(500 men a now training at Papakura Camp. The first section to go to Japan to relieve the men already sorving there, will probably be represeutative of all! units. As the total number of men to be transported is over 4009, it is likely that a second ship will be allotted although it is not vet known whether the Empire Pride will he required to make more than oue trip. , Xo state-* ment'has yet been issued as to whether the men vho are relieved in Japan will return to Xew Zealand on this vessel or whether alternative transport has been arranged.
