SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED
— ^ INTER-PROVINCIAL GOLF • Inter-provincial golf is oile of the most sadly neglected branches of that sport, especially when compared with tlie travelling done in other types of sport. For this state of affairs the New Zealand Council is to blame" in not organising eompetitions on a/Dominion basis. Tlie onlv fixture witli an interprovincial ffavour is the-_NeW' Zealand cliampionship, but where JRugbv has its Ranfurly Shield, Soccer its F.A. Tropliy, and ericket its Plunket Shield, golf has just nothiug. The Christchurch Metropolitan Golf Association has made,ia forward move in the iuatter and is endeavouring to arrange two inter=provincial matches at Christchurch, with returii matches in the respeetive provinces. One of the pro))osed matches. is against a Wellington team and the other is for a West Coast team to play a Canterbury B team. It would obviously be in the best interests of the game to see these fixtures eventuate, and it ean only be hoped that other eentres will follow Canterbpry 's lead.
