PARAPARAUMU NOTES
(From "Chronicle" Correspondent) The W.D.F.U. held its monthly meeting in the Anglican Hall, presided over by Mrs. Harris. There was a competition for a knitted teddy bear, in aid of the building fund. This was won by Miss Udy. Gifts of fat and soap were received for sending overseas. Miss Hanseh read an interesting letter from Alan Howell, written while serving in Italy. The best flower competition was won by Mrs. Harris. Welcome rain fell at the weekend; at least it would be very welcome to those whose tanks were becoming alarmingly low after the spell of glorious sunny weather experienced lately. The Paraparaumu branch of the Anglican Ladies' Guild held its annual meeting in the Anglican Sunday School. The position of president was left open till Mrs. Rickells- wife of the Rev. Rickells, who has recently arrived from England, is at liberty to preside. Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Hadfield were elected vice-presidents, and Mrs. Tyson secretary. Afternoon tea was served and much enjoyed. The trees and berried shrubs are all aglow with autumn tinted leaves and berries/ and very lovely they look about the countryside. The sunsets of iate have been specially beautiful;
