Progress on State Houses That there was little likelihood of the State houses now under construction in Chamberlain Street being completed for at least three months was the advice given by the Mayor (Mr. H. B. Burdekin) in conversation with a "Chronicle" representative to-day. His Worship said this was the opinion given by the contractors, who, in common with builders throughout the Dominibn, are experiencing the difficulties attendant on shortages of i cement, plaster board, baths and other housing materials. Food for Britain Realising that if Britain is "-to receive relief in her present desperate food shortage, a number of Levin organisations have now taken up the campaign locally to save meat and butter coupons. At yesterday's luncheon of the Levin Rotary Club, the president .(Mr. F.. H. Hudson) said there had been some criticism of the famine elnergency campaign and some doubts expressed. as to whether coupon saving would benefit Britain. As a vesult of attending a recent meeting, and from enquiries made, he was satisfied that every coupon saved meant tlle equivalent amount of extra food for Britain. Mr. Hud-' son asked Rotarians to assist the campaign as much as possible by bringing their surplus meat and butter coupons to the clilb's luncheon each week.
