— / | Mrs. W. S. Park, of MacArthurJStreet, is visiting Wellington. Mrs. J. Heywood, of Bruce Road, Levin, has returned from a visit to Wellington. ! Mrs. H. M". Crozier, of Broadway Aveniie, Palmerston North, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. V. Egerton Clarke, of Mako Mako Road, Levin. Mr. and Mrs. Max' Ferkins, Miss Dorothy- Nash and Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Barker, of Wellington, were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Sly, at their Hokio Beach cottage. At the special request of the New Zealand Government, Captain C. H. Upham, V.C. and Bar, has agreed to take part in the Victory parade in London on June 8. Arrangements have been made for him to travel by air, leaving New Zealand on May 27 and arriving in Great Britain on June 1. Prior to his recent marriage, Mr. G. H. Sorenson was the guest, at a social evehin'g tendered to him by the St. John's Methodist Church and held in the Century Hall. There was a good attendance of members of the church choir, Ladies' Guild and the Methodist congregation. During the evening Mr. H. H. Baumoer presented Mr. Sorenson with a chair on behalf of the choir, and Mrs. Prouse a tea wagon from the Ladies' Guild.. Vocal items were provided by Miss Irving ancj reCitations by Miss Bowden. A very enjoyable time passed with games and other social activities. A visitor to the Foxton races on Satui-day was Mr. G. Hughes, who is now in his 94th year. For many years Mr. Hughes was resident of Foxton, being in the service of the Railway Department and engaged on the Foxton-Palmerston NorthWanganui section. For 60 years he has not missed a meeting of the Foxton Racing Club held on the racecourse at Foxton, the only ones he has not been able to attend being those held, during the war at other racecourses. Mr. Hughes is a resident now of Paekakariki and specially visited Foxton for the races on Saturday. ' *
