ATTEMPT TO BLOW UP BRITISH DESTROYER
Received Thursday, 7 p.m. LONDON, May 2. An altcmpt to blow up the British destrover Chevron in Haifa harbour, was foiled by the discovery of a lcitbag filled with explosives in the de- | stroyer's messrooni, saj-s Reuter's, Jerusalem correspondent. The Chevron arrived at Tlaifa from Alexandria on May 1, earrying 13 Palestinian J naval ratings due for discharge in i Palestine. After the ratings had dis- j embarked the kitbag was discovered j placed in a position over. the ship's niagazine and containing detonators fitted and fully primed, and also a lengtli of fuse. The ratings were arrested. One had a detonator and the others had explosives coneealed in their clothing. Oue of the ratings, it is re- 1 ported, has been identifusd as a wellknown terrorist. The Chevron was the destrover which intereepted an illegal merchant vessel inside teriitorial wafers ofT Tel Aviv on March 25.
