ArCKl.AND, April 29. A full'shipment of baled hav brought by the Governinent from Lyttelton in the British inolorship Fort Sukisdac, to fill urgent demands in the droughtaffected north, is likely to prove an expensive fonn of public assistancq. The Fort Hakisdac loadeil her Tui 1 cnrgo of 9000 tons cubic nieasurement in Lyttelton and arrived in Auckland on the night of April 22. She anchored in the stream to avvait a berth and tomorrow morning after a defay of a week,- will move alongside Prince 's Wharf. The produce is heing sold under a Gov'fernnie'nt subsidy. To this charge on the'public can be- added the suostantial costs of the steamer charter, augmented in the Case of the Fort Sakisitae by eight days' idleness at anchof, at several hundred pounds a dav. ' The rate of discharge of the hav in earlier shipments has not heen exceptionally fast and it is probable that at le'ast another fortnight would elapse ■before the vessel is clcared of her cargo. The chainnan of the Auckland distriet fodder alloeation committee, Mr. E. B.. Glanville, stated that supplies how coniing from the south woulu generally be used for winter feed. Rain had improved the immediate position but the southern feed would be urgehtlv needed in Julv, August and September to replace hay and ensilage fed out during the drought.
