Misses Eileen and Margaret Jen-. kins, of Essex Street, Levin, are at present spending their annual vacation in the- South Island, where fchey are visiting Dunedin, Timaru and Christchurch. One of Palmerston North's best known citizens, in the person of Mr. M. A. Eliott, passed away at an early hour yesterday morning after a long illness. Mr. Eliott held seats on numerous local bodies and public organisations including the palmerston North City Council and Wellington Harbour Board, of which he was chairman for a period. For very many years he was associated with the Manawatu A. and P. Association, of which he was a past president. He was also president of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce for a period, being associated With that organisation also for many years. He had been a Palmerston North representative on the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board and was chairman of the Palmerston North National Savings Com--mittee at its ■inaugur.ation to mention a few of his activities. Mr. dott was born in Wellington in November, 1869, and moved to Palmerston North as chief clerk and accountant to Messrs. Barraud and Abraham. Eight years later he joined Mr. H. C. Mellsop in the establishing of a business in Palmerston North, carrying on on his own when Mr. MellsopTetired. -He leaves a widow, a son and a daughter.
