SIGNAL OFFICER PROMISING

The winner of the Dominion Handicap on the second day of the C.J.C. Easter meeting, Signal Offi;er, has had an unfortunate career. He has missed the New Zealand Cup twice, because he broke down about two weeks before the race. Earlier this season Signal OffiCer appeared to have a'successful season before him, but broke down and did not race until the Birchwood Hunt Club meeting on March 30, where he was finishing on. He won the Members' Handicap at Gore, carrying 9 st., rather comfortably from Sailor's Pal. Last Tuesday he drifted early, but slowly came up again to challenge the pacemakers 'and' win with a great deal in hand., Signal Officer is a four-year-old bay gelding by Salmugundu from Morse Signal, and is an acceptor for the Autumn Handicap on Saturday at Riccarton.
