j Received Tuesday, 11 a.m. I LONDON, Aprii 22. j Congress of the Social Democr&ts 'and Communists at Berlin Opera House to-day formally carried a ; resolution fusing the two parties in the Russian zone and the Russian. i sector of Berlih drid fof m'ihg a single party, which in future will be 'cailed the Socialist Unity Party. | Reuter's Berlin correspondent i i says it is learned that the British j Military Government will to-mo'r- j row order seven German Commun- ; ists and seven Social Democrats of ' the British zone, who were to-day ! : elected members of the neW execu- j : tive committee of the Socialist , Unity Party, to resign their posi- ' i tions. The authorities permittedGermans to come f'rom the British zone to attend the meeting, but the British attitude is that Germans cannot represent the new party in that area since the party does not exist there, and has not even ap- i plied for permission to establish itself. ; i Officially it is pointed out that this does not mean the party w'ill be prohibited indefinitely in the British zone and British sector of Berlin, but the existing Allied rules regarding new parties must for the"' present be respected.
