Placing. vras | indulged in by all cont'e'starits during the day's play, but strarig'ely eriough it did not materially assist I low scoring, probably thr'dugh the greens and fairways' being very heavy at the start of play and theri rapidly drying out as the d&y advanced— The following are scores from those cards handed in for the conipetitions staged: — 36-hole medal round, with giwss and nett scores in that order: — D. Karakamea Cup The closing date for entries iri the' Karakamea Cup is May 4; and the first round eommenees on May 18. As in the case of the D.C.L. Cup, the entry lists will definitely close at the' advertised times and -no post entries will be considered, so the onus is on all members to Complete their entries as stated for eligibility to compete. Inter-CIub Matches Members will notice that no mention has been made iri connection with the date of the inter-ciub games with the various district clubs, but it is hoped that full arrangements will shortly be made and members will then be able to' pencil in the allotted dates on their match programmes. Any members who hdve not yet r.eceived a. match. programme, or who , has inadverpantly lost it, may prdCure a copy by applying to the secretary.

Club Doings We hope shortly to be able to give members some information regarding the performance of the club members who visited the Hokowhitu links at Palmerston North for the annual Easter championships. Prospects did not appear too bright locally on the eve of the Easter Saturday tourney, as heavy rain fell all night ori Frid&y, but j Saturday, f ortunately,- proved a Ireal golfers' day, briliiant sunshine I and an entire absence of wind making the best competitioii day to date j since opening day. Whether the firie | day upset calculations' to s'tiCh a jmarked degree is a matter for conjecture, for the scoring, with a few solitary exceptions, was startingly | high, espeeialiy under placing rules. i However, the Holiday spir'it s'eemed I to be the essence of the day, fo'r all jcontestants enjoyed their full day. i Probably many of the Easter conItestants, together with -their remaining club members, will no ■ doubt" settle -down to serious golf now that all summer sports have seemingly ended, and they will n'ow be able to concentrate on their winter sport of golf. One pleasing feature to date is that. even though the atteriddriCek have been on a small scale for the actual cornpetitions played, splendid fellowship continues to be such a feature of the Levin Glrib's activities. The new members have teamed in very well with their fellbw golfers, and a most erijdyable playing and social season seems definitely assured. The mere winning or losing -of a game is an aspect that has always been a burden to many club committees in the sporting era, but to all appearances the local commiftee hds uridef it" a sdlid - membership of keen enthusiasts. Another pleasing aspect of tlie sdason's play to date is that quite, a large number of formef members

are rejoining the club. This pai"tiC'iilarly applies to the ladies' section, and it is to' be hoped that their absence from the game over varying periods will have no detrimental effect on their games for this and further seasons. The ladies' sectiori at one time, and indsed for many seasons, was equal in playing strength to the men's section, brit now the latfer outnumber the ladie's by almost three to one. It is therefore, hoped that with the old club members rejoining, added strength will soon see the ladies' section ori an equal footing with the men's and so obviously increase enthusiasm.
