AUCKLAND, April 16. The attitude of the Auckland brancli I of the Waterside Workers' Union toi working 011 Saturday morning- under Easter holiday diroction laid down by tlic Waterfront Control Comniission in Wellington, is a matter of lively speculation among those interested in tlie j port. The union has not yet stated its I vieivs 011 Easter holiday work but it is! understood tlie subject is being dis- 1 eussed in Wellington. "There is some doubt whether the waterside workers will work on Saturday and I assuine our staff will not be ■ needed if the watersiders take it into their miuds not to handle cargoes, " said j\ir. G. E. Carr, at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board. He xvas commenting on a report by the "chairnian, Mr. J. H. Frater, that in view of port congestion, no extended leave could be given to the staff over Easter, and that it would be necessary for norma! arrangenients to be made for Saturday. Mr. Frater said he hoped tlie situation would not arise. Tf the waterfront was working on Saturday the staff would be needed t-0 assist but its members would not be held baek if there was no work.
