TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY MATINEE TUESDAY 2 P.M.

"The Gentle Sex," new production of Two Cities Concanel Films, released by Gaumont-British-Dom-inions, coming to the Regent Theatre on Tuesday has seven leading ladies and one leading man. This tale of Britain's women at war stars Joyce Howard, Rosamund John, Lilli Palmer, Jean Gillie, Joan Greenwood, Barbara Waring and Joan Gates as members of. the A.T.S., who all joined on the same day, and whose various adventures in the service form the plot of the film. John Justin was given special leave from the R.A.F. to play the only male lead as an R.A.A.F. officer who falls in love with copvoy driver Anne (Joyce Howard) . All seven of this gallant littlc band of girls are totahy different in character and background. Anne is the daughter of an Army Officer, Maggie comes from dour Scots fishing folk, Erna is a Czech refugee, Betty a spoilt and only ehild who has never left the shelter of her home before, Dot is an ex-beauty parlour girl, and Gwen, a typical Cockney, was a waitress. Joan used to teach daneing.

The seven girls are , shown first as newly-joined A.T^S. members who by chance travel down to camp in the same carriage. Then in the first stages of their training with all the diffieulties that their new life must necessarily bring them. After a Selection Board they are posted to various jc(bs — convoy drivers — members of ari Ack-Ack gun site — mess orderlies. The final scenes in the film show them' all once again in the same unit facing up to a blitz with the courage and confidence that has made the war women of Britain famous throughout the world.
