WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

OTAKl'S MONTHLY MEETING The monthly_meeting of the Otaki W.I. was held in the Anglican Hall 5h' Thursday -last.' Th'e president, Mrs. Lumley, presided over a very large attendance. The meeting opehed with ' the institute song. Visitors to the meeting were we/comed by the president. After the usual routine business, Mrs/Ashwin rendered a very pleasing vocal solo. The president then introduced the guest of the afternoon, "Daphne," from 2ZB, who gave an interesting address on the operation of the 2ZB Station. "Daphne's" comprehensive explanation- was listened to very attentively, and was' greatly appreciated by those present. She also gave two very delightful elocutionary items. . A competltion 'for the best knitted singlet was won by Miss Manz. The slnglets, whi-ch numbered 24, were handed to UNRRA. Competition for best bloom went to Mrs. Berry, best shr.ub .. to.. Miss Manz, -blackberry jelly to Mrs. Berry and cooking to Mrs. Bowery. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Lowry, Jenson, Jacobs, Knox and Misses Hickson and Manz. A very pleasant and profitable' evening was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
