It was agreed to hold another meeting next Monday evening. LETTERS FROM MINISTER As an outcome of a public meeting held in Shannon on March 28, when enquiries were made of Mr. L. G. Lowry, M.P., as to the State housing position in Shannon and the possibility of the paint factory at Miramar being shifted, Mr. Lowry has handed to the Mayor (Mr. R. E. Downes) two letters from the Minister of Works (Hon. R. Semple) . With reference to State housing, Mr. Semple stated that he has ascertained from the Director of Housing Construction that at present the matter stands as follows: The State Advances Corporation has fourteen satisfactory applications recorded, five of which are classified as urgent. The Works Department has purchased land for five house units. A contract embracing lour of these units was let on January 24 of this year, but it is understood the contractor has not yet started construction. Legal formalities in regard to the purchase of another block of land have been proceeding for some time, and this matter is now on the point of being finalised. "This will provide the department with another three unit sections, and a further building contract for four houses will be prepared at an early date. Whether or not a builder will be available to undertake this second contract remains to be seen. . The second letter was replying to Mr. Lowry's letter enquiring as to the likelihood of a shift of the B.A.L.M. Paintworks at Miramar to some other district. Mr. Semple stated that Mr. Lowry's letter was the first intimation he had had of such a move, and' was unable to say whether 01* not there is any possibility of this taking effect. Mr. Semple ativised that he would be pleased to make enquiries, and if it is possible for him to learn anything in the direction he would advise. .
