HAST^N Gb, April In. Passings were frequent at the first annual sale of thoroughbreds in liawke's Bny, whicli was conducted in Hastings today, when there was an cnlry of Si lots. A number of the oll'eriugs fa'iled to reaeh 20 guineas. Apart i'roin a few entries showing breeding, little inquiry was shown and there were mnuy passings at big margins below the reserves. For a number of aged mares no bids were i'igTop price was loOOgns. for Gay Rona, ofl'ered on aecount of Mr. 11. Hassall (Hastings), the purchaser being Mr. J. A. Mitchell (Longburn). A second offering ont of the same stud was sold at 350gns. to Mr. J. H. JefCerd (Hastings). The second highest price was tiOOgns. for a 12-year-old by Lord Warden on aecount of Mr. F. B. Bousliekl (Gisborne*), purchased by Mrs. E. M. Perham (New Plvinouth).
