Personal Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Reed, of Auckland, have been the guests of Mrs. J. D. Campbell, of Mangaore. Sister Adkin, of Levin, is at present relieving district nurse at Shan non. After one and a-half years as clerk at the local railway station, Mr. F. A. Grey left on Wednesday to take up duties at Putorino, on the Napier-Wairoa Line. Mr. C. A. North, from Wellington, will replace Mr. GFey. Rainfall During March rain fell on 17 days at Mangaore, measuring 5.95 inches, while at Mangahao there were 19 wet days and the measured rainfall was 14.11' inches. Crib Evening A crib evening for Mr. Astwood on Wednesday in the Mangaore Hall was largely attended in spite of the weather conditions. The winnefr was Mr. Williams of Shannon. Wcek-end Football On Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Domain * two football matches will be played. At 1.30 ,the juniors will play Foxton and at. -3 p.m. a senior team will piay Athietic. 1 " Dcntal Clinic Unstaffed The dental clinic at the school is at present unstaffed as the dental nurse found it necessary some weeks ago, for health reasons, to go off , duty. Miss Gardner is recuperating at Raumati Beach, and ' is not j expected to resume duties until May. • • /.- Memorial Hall Committee At a public meeting held in the Renown Theatre recently a committee of five was formed to go into details and devise ways and means of raising money for the building of a war memorial hall at Shannon. The following were elected: Messrs. R. Hook, R. R. Lind, V. Bateman, J. Sinclair and H. Aitchison. Two New Flats To help relieve the housing shortage, a two-storied building in Ballance Street, known in the past as O'Connor's and used as a combined shop and dwelling, is having alterations done to it. The disused shop portion is being converted into a flat for incoming tenants, while the present tenants will continue to live in the normal dwelling' part as before. Social Afternoon ' A delightful afternoon was spent at the home of Mrs. J. D. Campbell, at Mangaore, on-. Wednesday, as a farewell, to Sister Willis.'-jt took the form of a- handkerchlef . afternoon, and an original verse was attached to each gift. Those. present were: Mesdames „S. Ba'rber-,- . McCauley, Bishop, Perry, Chivers (Tokomaru) , Wylie, Elvines, Clymont, Bason, Beech and Misses J. Little, of Wellington, and Little, of Foxton. Old Shannonites Return On holiday bent, with just an overnight stay on their way to Bay of- Plenty, Mr. and Mrs. McGregor, of Oamaru, were busily engaged on Tuesday looking up as many old friends as possible in the limited time at their disposal. Twentyone years ago, the then Constable McGregor was in charge of the Shannon police station yith Constable Shannon as his assistant, and many will recall the humorous quips at their expense for Constable McGregor was of Scottish descent and Ireland laid claim in no uncertain manner to Constable Shannon. Both are now retired. Mr. Shannon resides in Christchurch. After reaching the rank of senior-ser-geant at Oamaru, Mr. McGregor went into retirement in that town a year ago. Of Mr. and Mrs. McGregor's two sons, Andrew is in practice as a barrister and solicitor at Nelson and Donald is a junior house surgeon at the Wanganui Hospital.
