BADMINTON CLUB OPENS
A very large crowd, including a number "of visitors, gathered in the Druids' Hall on Monday evening for the opening of the Shannon Badminton Club's 1946 season. A very enjoyable evening was spent and some fine badminton played, especially among the new players, some of whom showed great promise. Keen interest was taken in an exhibition match played between Mr. Sheerin, of Palmerston North, and Mr. H. Benning, of Ohau. Mr. Sheerin is the Manawatu ehampion. During the supper break, the president, Mr. L. Burling, mentioned that he was very pleased to see such a great number of visitors present, and thanked them for coming along to make the opening the great suecess which it was. Mr. Burling stated that the prospects for the coming season looked very good, and the interest shown' by the young folk made it very heartening •for the committee. "He also stated that he was pleased to see most of the old players back in the club again. Among the visitors present were: Mr. and Mrs. James, Mr. Sheerin and Mr. McDonald, of Palmerston North, Mrs. and Miss Fanning, Mr. J. Fanning and Mr. H. Benning, of. Ohau, and Messrs. J. Lomas and J. Bowling, of Manakau-. The delightful supper served was a credit to the lady members of the club.
