WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

K1MBERLEY S APRIL MEETING The Kimberley Women's Institute held its hioiithly meeting on Thursday. Proceedings opened with the singing of the New Zealand National Inthem and "The Aspirations." Ihe presiderit, Mrs. Dorne, was in the chair ' and extenfled a warm welcome to riiembers and visitors. It was pleasing to see present' former members, who had b(een unable to atten'ri meetings during the war years ori account of" petrol restrictions. Mesdames Dorne and J. Griffith were appointed delegates to the Southern Federatio.ii Council meeting and Mrs. R. W. Evans to ' the Dominion conference of the Wqmen's- Institute,, to b,e held in Wellingto.n iri June. I?he business of the meeting was dealt with and afterwards a pleasant social liour was spent. Mesdames Trim and Hudson contributed musical items, Mesdames Robinson and Dorne duets and Miss Trim a piaribfort'e solo.' These items were very much appreciated by the members. A pleasing duty was performed by Mr's. -Evans in presenting Mrs. Crowe with a good service badge. Mrs. Evans eulogised the work done by Mrs. Crowe, who was one of the first members of the institute when it was formed thirteen years ago. The president (Mrs. Dorne) then presented Miss Jepson, who is s.hbrtly to be married, with a gift and a dainty posy, extending to hqr good wislies for her* future happriiess. Miss Jepson thanked members for their gift. A money box was presented to Baby Jeanette Aitcheson and a posy to Mrs. Evans. The competitions were won as follows: — Best flower: Mrs. Aitcheson 1, Mrs. Field 2, Mrs. Griffith 3. Best spray: Mrs. Hagan 1, Mrs. J. Griffith 2, Mrs. Crowe 3. President's competition, an egg cup of wild flowers: Mrs. J. Griffith 1, Miss Woodmass 2, Mrs. Field 3. The president's competitioii for May will he four pikelets and a floral demo'n^tration. The meeting closed with the singing of t'he National Anthem.
