INTERESTING TRIALS AT AWAPUNI

An exceptionally good mile by Blanket was a feature of the linal irials for Hastings and Wanganui-engaged horses at Awapuni yesterday morning. Sprint honours went to Flying Orders, while others who attracted attention were Finaneial, Tutere and Theiolyn. The course proper, with the pegs out 30ft., was available for galloping, tlie going being easy. The jumpers Kanui te Pai (Aitk'en) and Mynet (Saunders) opened proceed ings by covering a mile in 1.55 2-5, the last" three furlongs in 41 3-5see. Both are in great shape and a,re hooited to contest the Brighton Hurdles at Ellerslie at Easter. Theiolyn (Waddell) jumped away several lengths ahead of Tutere (Briggs) at tlid five furlongs, but the latter linished in great style to get witliin a lengtli of his eompanion at the end in .1.6." Tutere has done splendidly since being at Awapuni and is expected to give a good account of himself at Hastings in spite of his lack -of recent racing. Te Ruru (Midwood) and a eompanion completed the last five of seven furlongs in 1.12 2-5. Hakini (Harris; strode over five furlongs in 1.10 2-5. He has not raced for over 12 months and is earrying plenty of condition. Voltaic (Waddell) appeared to be doing just as well as Zealander (Biggs) at. the conelusion of half a mile in 54 3-5. Glebefield (Saunders) reeled off three furlongs in 41 l-5sec. Glen Urquhart .(Cliristensen) and Prefa (Andrews) finished on- terms at the end of five furlongs in 1.8 2-5. Both look in good order for their engagements at Hastings. After trailing Dileas (Harris) and Riiik ( Amey) in the early stages, Blanket (Bowness) fmished in great style to beat thein ppintlessly at the coiupletion of a mile in the good time of 1.49. The last three furlongs occupied 41sec. Blanket will probably contest the Victory Hack at Wanganui and would 011 ly rcquire to repeat his traelc form to prove dihicnlt to beat. Dutch Mary (Waddell) had the measure of Persuade (Saunders) at the end of live furlongs in 1.8 1-5. The former appeared to have plenty in reserve cml should go close to extending her record at Wanganui. Sir Bradbury displaved his eustoniary speed by dashing over three furlongs in 3S 3,-5sec. The Cup horses, Finaneial (Waddell;, Lad.Spiral (Aitken) and Arco (Boreham 1 were associated over a mile in 1.51) 2-5, tlie last three furlongs being runjui 41 3-5sec. Finaneial was travelling easily a length to the good at the close ann promises to be a strong favourite for tlie Wanganui Cup. Arco was staying on solidly and is likelv to prove 'a dangerous lightweight in the Hawke's Bay Cup. Tuis (Biggs) was not extended to run live furlongs in 1.9 1-5. Imperial (Aitken) strode over seven furlongs in 1.36, Ihe last tliree occupying 40 4-5see. tie has never looked better and is undoubtedly a galloper above the average. Roto Ptirera (Andrews) and Man's Pride (Christensen) rau an easy seven furlongs in 1.40. The former is engagp'l in the hurdles at Hastings, but would require to improve in his jumping. Tre mello (Waddell) moved effortlessly over five furlongs in 1.7, the last tTiree in 39 2-5see. He will. probably race at Wan gantii: and inay :gd 'well fresli. Flying Orders (Sellars) sprinted a smaft five furlongs in 1.5 1-5.. He is very well and should make "a bold sliowing' in the Havelock Flying at Hastings. Oiucture (Ewan) seampered over three furlongs in 39 3-5sec. The1 attractive looking Ringmaster filly is to make her debut tomorrow, but may need experienee be--fore being seen at her best. Speed Iving (Rouse) was schooled over four hurdles and again gave a proficient display. t Although he did not liave much pace on, Gay Rouen (Fagan) cleared four of the steeplechase fences in good stvle. Hormuz, who is to contest * the Hawke's Bay Cup, was let off with an easy task on the plough. He looks very well after his recent racing.
