RECORD TASMAN FLIGHT

auckland, Apm 4. A record west-bound trahs-Tasman flight was made today by a B25 M itchell aircraft of the United States Army Air Corps which iiew from Whenuapai at 9.6 a.m. and landed ,at Mascot at 2.10 p.m. The pilot Avas Lt. J. Kuver and the passengers included Colonel C. W. Gordon, commanding officer of the 7 lst U.S.A.A.C.B. group base at Hickham Field, Hawaii, and Commander" E. Muller, representing the commander-in-chief of the Paciiic Fleetl These officers had lieeii on brief duty in New Zealand. The Mitchell was assisted on the crossing by unusual weather conditions in having the benefit of a tail-wind. The prevailing winds in the Tasman are generally against fast west-bound flight s~ A Elying Fortress which made a rapid crossing from New Zealand to Australia was unoflicrally credited ivith* a record time of 5 hours 12 minutes, but the previous oflicially fastest west-
