A shipment of thoroughbreds valued at approximately £20,000 arrived at Auckland last week 011 the Hororata. It included the high-class racehorses Booby Trap, bred by Loi'd 'Dei'by, and Royal Arch, bred by Major L. B.- Halladay, together 'with four' young mares of the best English families, all in foal to Booby Trap, who is by v Plassy, a noted sire who was at the* head.of Lord Derby's French- Stud, and who is by the Ascot Gold Cup wimier, Bosworth from Pladda, a- three-quarter- sister toFairway and Pharos. Booby ' Trap won . his last three races on end in addition to his'wins as a three-year-old, when he . defeated the noted stayer, Persiah Gulf. He is a full brother to thor French classic winner, Arcot, who was retained by Lord Derby as a stallion,- a wonderful recommendation. Booby - Trap, who was secured for Mr. W. R: Stead's Sasanof Stud at Longlands, .Hawke's Bay, is closely related to the great sires, Chaucer, maternal grandsire of iiyperion, Fairway and Pharos, and the St. Leger winner, Swynford, the sire of Blandford,' and also to the Derby winner, Jeddah. He represents the male line of Son-in-Law, sire of Beau Pere, and the grandsire of Foxbridge. Royal Arch, who is. closely related to the champion sire, Foxbridge, and' the St. Leger winner, Tehran, recently sold for £1U0,000 by the Aga Ivhan, was secured for Mr. Donald Grant's Elloughton Grange Stud at Timaru. He was also a good winner and first-class stayer, winning up to 14 miles at three years, and up to 15 furlongs as a four-year-old. Royal Arch is by the highlv successful sire, Colorado , Kid, wliile his dam, Molly Bawn, has produced 110 fewer'than six winners. One of lier three-year-od daughters hhs just been bought for the National Stud at 5600 guineas. Both stalliohs are remarlcably fine individuals of very high quality. The four mares, all young, are due to foal in September. 0 Their quality is outstandiug. Very iippressive is' Clock Tower, a direct desce'ndant of the great mare, Chelandry, like the Austialian champions, Flight and Heroic. Another line mare from the same family is Cheney by his Majesty the King's high-class young stallion Limelight. This mare is a grand-daughter of Rhetoric, a sister to the Derby winner, Cicero, the sire-- of the great stallion, Valais, sire of Heroic. Another very attractive mare is Underway, halfsister to four recent winners, and by the brilliant Erench sire and galloper, Michoumy. The fourth mare, Sun Bride, is by Solario's unbeaten son, Tai Yang, while her dam, Graceful Bride, was a successful French race mare owned by the late Oaptain Jock Crawford, and like the Derby winner, Dante, descends from Dark Legend.
