COAL RESERVES SUFFICIENT FOR CENTURY
OUTPUT OF WELSH FIELD S Received Wednesday,' 10.45 a.m. LONDON, April 2. South Wales, which for many years has provided forty per cent. oi Britain's coal exports, has sufficient reserves to maintain the level oi its 1938 output for a century, says the Ministry of Fuel .'and Power uommittee's repoft. The report aads that there should be no serious decline for fifty years in activity in any part of tne South Wales coal field due to the exhaustion of reserves, unless costs in certam areas rendered production uneconomic. Most antnracite collieries had been working from forty to one hundred years, and modernisation of the older ones was urgent.
