BIG CHOIR TO PRESENT "THE MESSIAH"
WANGANUI, April 1. A choir of 250 to 300 voices, drawn from Wanganui^ Marton and Palmerston North, supported by an orcliestra is planned to present HandeUs "Messiah" for a Christmas season at the Palmerston North Opera House. Probably the flnest undertaking of the kind ever attempted in New Zealand, tke plans are being prepared under the dh-eetion of Mr. F. Wentworth Slater, A.R.CX)., following an invitation from a deputation from Palmerston North.. The orchestra, of not more than 20 players, will be chosen exclusively from Palmerston North, as the orcliestrai seores are held there. Tlie instrumentaiists will be specially chosen. Ghoru.s masters in each of the three centres will undertake preliminary reliearsals with tempos to conform with Mr. Slater 's requirements, Mr. Slater taking over the whole of the musieal production as the time for tlie performance dravvs near. Only flrst-class soloists will be engaged. \ The Palmerston North Opera House stage is the largest in New Zealand and can quite easily accommodate such a mammotli production. Working eomniittees are to be set up immediatefy in the three centres to organise the project.
