The War Office has announced that Lieut.-General Sir Miles Dempsey has been appointed • Com-mander-in-Chi'ef of the Middle East Forces in succession to Sir Bernard Paget. Lieut.-General Sir Montague Stafford has been appointed Com-mander-in-Chief of the Allied land' forces in South-east Asla in succession to Lieut.-General Dempsey.
