■ " w SHANNON MEETING The annual general meeting of the Shannon Miniature Rifle Club was held in Laurvig's Hall on W'ednesday last. Mr. L. Beck presided over a fair muster of members. The minutes were read and confirmed and the balance sheet, which showed a good credit balance, was adopted. The following were the elected offlcers for the coming year: — Patron: Mr, C. Guerin; president: Mr. L. Beck; vice-president: Mr. H. Norris; secretary: Mr. E. T. Wilson; treasurer; Mr. J. Lucinsky; range officers: Messrs. A. Birss and M. Lange; coaches: club captain, range officers and Mr. A. Judd; handicappers: Messrs. H. Norris and H. Curran; ammunition stewards: Messrs. H. and L. Munford; target markers: Messrs. H. .Norris, V.? Guerin arid E. Wilson. ' It wasj agreed that the , election of club captain and vice-captaih should be left over until the opening night, At least six new members were present. They were: Messrs. R. Teller, J. Birss, B. Lucinsky, W. Harding, R. Cane and N. Clough. It was decided that' shootirig would be ten shot target for "A" and "B'' grade members and eight shot target for junibrs. Y It was agreed that- the club should procure buttons for competitiori shoots for "A," "B" and "C" grade members, and they are to be held for one week and then handed in at the next shoot. Small trophies are to be allotted to each grade winner in the four weekly shoots. Mr. A. Birss moved that' the secretary should be congratulated on his work for the club during the season, and should be made an honorary member for 1946. This motion was carried. ; It was agreed to open the club tfor ,the T946 season on the night ■; of Wednesday, April 10, and that an invitation be extended to any ladies who wish to become . members to att'end the opening night shoot. Subscriptibns are to be the same as last season, .namely, 5/- for members 'over 16 years' of age and 2/6 for members under 16. Ammunition charges are 1/6 for members over 16 and 9d for members under 16. In his report, the president (Mr. L. Beck) said that the season of -1945 was, he considered, a very siiccessful one, although the membership stood only at twenty-six financial members. The attendance was very good, although towards the erfd of . t^ie^season it fell away aud' thfe'blhb wis :T;Umiihg at a loss. in regard to firiance, Mr. Beck said ^that .the. fclub was in a vfery sound positiori." The' president also reported that there,, had been ample ammunition to fire all competition matches held during the year, and the club had on hand some one thousand rounds to start off the coming season. The New Zealand Association advised that there would be an improvement in the ammunition position during 1946. Mr. Beck said that competition matches were held during the season for senior, junior and "C" grade shooters, and all were contested with enthusiasm. All those who had donated . trophies and given 'financial' donations to- assist the club were to be thanked for thefi; yalued support. Mrs. Hyde hard donated a shield for the jur/ior grade competition, but owing ko the manufacturers being unable to supply it the shield was not yet to hand, but it was to be hoped that it would be on hand for the coming season. The club owed its thanks to Mrs. Hyde for this generous donation. Two inter-club matches held against Longburn, the "A" grade team being heaten by a very narrow margin in both shoots but the "B" grade team had won both their matches. The club also entered teams in the "own start" competition but were without success. In conclusion, Mr. Beck thanked all his committee for the help they had given him during his term of office and wished the club every success during the 1946 season.
