CHK ISTCH HRCII, March 28. Praisi ng the work done by local bodies during the war, the Minister of Internal Affairs (H.011. W. E. Parry) told the Municipal Conference that tlie local governnient system of the Dominion had eonie through a testing period with flying' colours, and stood second to none in its efficiency. He referred to the report of the Parliamentary Committ'e on Local Government and said that, altliough the details were not yet completed, a Bill •giving effect to .its recommendations would be introduced as soon as possible in the coming session. He expeeted the Bill to pass tne House without much opposition. It was likely that the most important single recommendation of the committee, the formation of a Local Bodies ' Commission, would be put into effect bcfore the end of the year. The commission would have a judieial chairman, a Govemment representative well versed in local body affairs, and a represcntative from the local bodies. Perhaps the different local bodies would get togcthcr to make the appoinlment, but if a couuties' man were appointed, it should be possible to have advisory oflicers appointed to help him.with special subjects, such as borough administration, power boards and hospitals.
