PATRICK EXPECTED TO ARRIVE TO-DAY
Vic Patrick and his party, which will include his wife and two young children, was expected to arrivc at Wellington to-day. His first fight will be against Jim Grifiin at Petone Recrqation ground, to-morrow week. j April 6. Patrick started his boxing career: in 1940 when he k.o'd Les Sliocker in the first round of their bout. Out! of his 14 fights that year he won! all but one with a knock-out, aua' that one he took on points. That .
was against Cec. Rogers. In 1941 he lost only one of his 13 bouts and that was to Tod Morgan, whom he beat later iii the year for the Australian light-weight championship. In 1943 Patrick lost a bout with Les. Sioane, but won the other four. He defeated Carl Dell (U.S.A.) by a technical knock-out in 1944. His other two bouts that season were against Jack Day and Vic. Caltaux. He won in the eighth round of his j fight with Caltaux, while Bos. I Murphy defeated Caltaux in the eleventh round of their bout. In 1 1945 his only fight was against A1 ! Stock, whom he beat in the fifth round. Patrick's only two fights this year were against Jimmy - Brunt and Tommy Burns, both of whom he beat in the sixth and ninth -rounds respectively. Patrick has earned great popularity in Australia, and even in this country he has a big following. He is being classed in his own country as a second Les. Darcy — one of the greatest boxers Australia had produced up to the time Patrick climbed into the limelight. It is undcrstood that the Railways Dcpartment" will run special 'trains and buses from Wellington to Petone on the afternoon of the fight.
