EASING ELECTRICITY POSITION

WELLINGTON, March 28. Commencing on Monday, April 1, a further reduction of a half-hour in the hours of broadcasting will come into operation. All broadcasting stations will now shut down from Mondays to Fridays inclusive from 8.10 a.m. to 8.40 a.m., in addi- ' tion to the present hours of the shut down from 11.30 a.m. to noon and 5.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. This was announced to-day in a joint statement by the Minister of Works I (Hon. R. Semple) and the Minister jpf Broadcasting (Hon. F. Jones). The Ministers' statement conjtinued: "The benefit to the electric ( supply position of the additional period of shut-down of broadcast|ing stations will not be fully real- ! ised unless all receiving sets are switched off from the electric sup;ply as soon as the stations go off 1 the air. In the North Island alone } there are over 250,000 receiving sets ]in use, and with these definitely I disconnected from the supply the I relief which can be given to power stations is quite substantial."
