Whiie in Shannon Mrs. Culpan is the guest of Mrs. E. Cane. Highway To-dressing The top-dressing of the main highway through Shannon is now completed and motorists will no doubt appreciate the fine surface of the road. Defaulters' Hospital Owing to there belng no further need for a hospital in connection with the military defaulters' camp at Whitanui, Miss Rolfe, who has been matron in charge for almost four years, relinquished her position with the National Service Department. She left for Wellington at the week-end. Welcome Home There was a large gathering of friends present at the Makerua Sehooi on Saturday evening to welcome home Mr. George Smith, who has returned from service overseas. Dancing was enjoyed until a late hour to music supplied by Mr. Atkinson. The duties of M.C. were in tlie hands of Mr. Roy Anderson. A competition was held during tne evening and was won by Mr. Ron Parr, who donated-the trophy back to tlie committee. It was iater sold for the school funds.
