SUPPORT FOR RETENTION IN PALMERSTON NORTH. Unanimous supporl of tbe deci.sion oi the Governnient lo rctain Ihe Beed Tc.si [ ing htation at Palmerston North hu- | come from the Alaiui'.vatu Primary l'ro Iduction rouncil, Manav.atu A. fc P. As jsociation, Manar.atu (Iraiu iSeed ami } Produce Merchants' Associalion, I'ahn | erston North Chamlier of Commerce, land Palmerston North Cily Council. It is recogniseil by all users of the 'station that removal would cau.se seri j ous interruption of the seed testing ser I vice for a verv lengthy period. Furj ther, no better service woukl result In ja change of location. Anv delay in ■ testing at the present time is due partly I to lack of facilities and verv largely lo ditliculty in securing additionai stall, which difticulty should be overcome now that the Miuister has come to a final decision. Palmerston North, "bv reason of exc'ellent air mail service, is unsurpassed fo._ .quiek delivery of samples and eertili cates. In view of ihe extensive expori of New Zealand seeds, any further de. lay or inaccuracv of iests caused by stall' changes, would lie a serious matter to the New Zealand seed trade. All members of the seed industry are agrein that the provision of adequate testing services is essential to the retention ami further development. of the Doniinion 's seed export trade, and that any cessa tion, even for a brief period, would result in complete disorgaui nation of the industry. Now that the decision lias lieen made it is hoped that the aulhori ties will proceed with the enlargemeni of the present station immediately.
