WELLINGTON, March 25. Messrs. Saunders' joinefy fabtoryj in Pilmuir Street, Lower Hutt, j became almost a complete write- j ofi as the result of a iire which broke out at 11.15 last night. Houses either sfde of the factory were evacuated and at an early hour this morning it appeared thatj some of them wouia also be i burned. Machines from Petone andj Lower Hutt brigades were quicklyj on the scene but the factory was already engulfed and flames in the yard containing tinder-dry timber soared high in the air. Overhead electricai wiring soon burned or was brought down oy falling timoer and crowds of people, depnved of sleep and with electricai lighting cut olf, came out to watch the blaze in their pyjamas. • . So far no estimate of the darnage is available.
