Tension between Communist and Congress supporters campaigning for votes has been increasing in the last en days. Brickbats, staves and soda water bottles were freely used in fights outside a number of polling stations. f - Tlie pohce opened fire in one incident at Bally, ten miles from Caicutta, seripusiy wounding one person, and followed this- up with a lathi charge against a melee between Communists and Congress supporters outside a polling station, in which fifteen were injured and taken to hospital.
