NEW PLYMOIJTH, March 22. Though the Customs Departniept has granted a licence for the iinportatiou of i 0,000 dozen golf balls fi'om Canada, the Miuistry of Supply has refu'sed to eudorse tlie permit, accordiug to advice received at New Plyinputh tuday. Tlie Canadian manufacturers are reported to be iu a position to despatch the balls iinmediatley, and it would be possible for the shipment to reach New Zealand within six weeks. New Zealand can not obtain balls fr-oiu the United Statbs, it is stated, and though the Bntisii Board of Trade has sent advice that 10,000 ballsjare available 1'or 'New Zealand, tlie shipment cannot possibly aifive before the eiul of May. The only supply of new baJls in New Zealand is report'ed to be 500 dozen held by one iirm, but they are not being rcleased because of tlie iliadequacy of the supply in coniparison with Ihe heavy demand.
