WELLINGTON, March 20. A serious problem in New Zi xland for the last 40 years, tiie conti oi of iinxious weeds, is now being considcred in ail ils aspects l»y a coinmittec set up by tlie Direetor-General of Agriculture. The ('oniinittee is representative of Govi rumenl deparlmenls, iocal bodies and farmers' organisatious. One proposnl which llie coimnittee will 110 donbt cmisider was recently inadc to tlie Mimster of Agriculture by tlie Doininion couucil of the Federated Fariners. lt is that a new seetion of tlu! Department of Agriculture be estnblisbed to deal specifically with wced control. An oliicer of tlie Department stated that tlie Soil Fortility ltesearrh Staiion at Hamilton was now carrying oul cxperiments with new weed lcillers, iiu'luding horniono solutions, which nllaeked Ihe roots. Tlie resulYs were encouragiug, but the work was dolaycd by diflicully in securing adequate hiippiies oi' matei'ials.
