OBITUARY

THE LATE MRS. VAUGHAN The late Mrs. W. Vaughan, who passed away recently at Otaki, was a native of Dubbo, New South Wales, and came to New Zealand with her parents on the ship "Waioura," landing at Wellington. Mrs. Vaughan lived in the city for a few months, and then went to Ohingaiti, and from there came to Otaki where she had resided for some fifty years. The late Mrs. Vaughan's great-grand-aunt, Miss Hansard, was the first white child to be born in New Zealand. She was born in the Bay of Islands and lived there all her life. Mrs. Vaughan's father was a native of Auckland, following a sea-faring life for a number of years, after which he went into the saw milling business. He was also a contractor, both in Australia and New Zealand, and was a well-known farmer in the Taihape district for several years.
