TOWN PLANNING SCHEME
Levin Borough Council Acts * MANY BENEFITS WILL ACCRUE A decision to formulate a town planning scheme for the hotrough was made at this .month's meeting of the Levin Borough Council. it will mark the, beginnin* of the introduction of town planning prineiples in Levin, and in the future it will not be possible for industrial buildings to be erected in residenti.al or other unsuitahle areas to the detriment of the appearance of the town. The deeision is an important one, the benefits of which will be readily apparent. At the meeting the engineer (Mr. K. W, Sandford) told the council that under regulations all towns with a population of 1000 or over were under an obligation to submit a town planning scheme to the Town Planning Board for approval, The moment the council passed a resolution deciding to proceed with the preparation of a plan it then had the authority to oppose any building or other work it considered to be against the interests of the borough. The Mayor (Mr. H. B. Burdekin) , who first advocated the move earlier in the year, at which time a decision was deferred, pointed out that ttie council could not declare an industrial area until it - had agreed to prepare a town planning scheme. On the motion of Cr. A. O. Powell, seconded by Cr. W. Telford, it was decided to ag'ree to the formulation of a town planning scheme. Cr. F. E. Parker then moved that ifor this purpose the borough be resolved into three main areas — industrial, commercial and residential. It was seconded by Cr. D. J. Gardiner and carried. The Mayor said it was now for the council's town planning committee to" bring forward a recommendation as to what parts of the borough should form these areas.
