Pcrson&l Mr. Bert Webb, who has been ; away from Shannon for a number of years, has returned to visit old friends. While playing at the ShannonSchooPa few days ago, Nancy Lange fell and injured •her hand, making it necessary to spend a short time in the Palmerston North Hospital. St. Patrick's Ball A full report of the St. Patrick's Ball, held in the Druid's Hall, Shannon, last evening, together with a social list and a -description of the dresses will be published- in to-mor-row's issue. Harvest Festival The Church of England harvest festival was held in the church on Sunday evening, when a large congregation gathered to hear the service by the Rev. J. H. Datson. As in the past, the produce was sent to All Saints' Children's Home at Palmerston North. Plunket Shop Day The Shannon Plunket Society held a very successful shop day on Friday last, and the coirymittee wishes to thank all who gave donations of produce and cash, and also those who spent so freely at the stall. Competitions held in connection with the stall were won by: Wendy Wishart, Mrs. A. McEwan, Miss E. Free, Mrs. Sell, Mrs. Barker. Flood-gate Trouble A Ietter was received at the monthly meeting of the Makerua Drainage Board from Mr. R. H-. Charter, Okuku Road, Shannon, asking that an inspection be made of the flood-gate on the road drain bordering Mr. W. Curle's property, where it enuers the Tokomaru River. Any attempt, he said, to lift the gate against the slightest back pressure threatened the collapse of the whole of the winding gear, making it impossible to free the gate when •blocked with debris. The rnatter was referred to a committee.
