I The salaries of Commoners should i be increased to £1000 yearly, of ! which £500 should be allowea co ax, ; members as an expense allowance I cree from income oax, states txie report of the Select Comniittee on Members' Expenses, published as a ; Wnite Paper. The committee also recornmends .that Ministers with salaries of i under £5000 and the chairman and I deputy-chairman of Ways and Means should be granted an expense allowance of £500 free of income tax as in th case of Members 41 che House, in addition to their oresent salaries. Commoners are at present paid a salary of £600 yearly, of which £10® is tax free as expenses.
