WEDDING BELLS
The Sacred Heart Chu-rch, Hastings, was the scene of .a pr,etty wed-. ding on Saturday, March 2, when Catherine Julia, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Downing, Dufferin Street, Hastings, was married to Godfrey Ivan, eldest son of Mrs. G. McKinstry, and the late Mr, C. S. Tong, Levin. The Rev. Father Milligan officiated at the eeremony and Madame Lelievre presided at the organ. *■ The bride, who was given avVay by her father, wore a trained gown of white Swiss lace mounted on satin. Her beautiful veil was held in place by a halo of .orange blossoms, and fell in folds to form. a second train. She carried a shower bouquet of cactus, dahliaSj gladioli, carnations and maidbnhair fern. Her only' ornament was a gold cross and chain. The two bridesmaids,. Miss • J. Downing (chief) and Miss N. McKinstry, Levin, were frocked alike in ground-length gowns of turquoise melody crepe, having scalloped lpwwaisted bodices, heart-shaped necklines, with the neckline and waist outlined with blue ruched ribbon. On their haix they v/ore blue tulle bows, with top-knots of lemon cactus dahlias, and they carried shower bouquets of iemon cactus dahlias, gladioli and maidenhair fern.- They also wore gold crosses and chains.
Mr. W. Thomas, Wanganui, was best man and Mr. L. Jacob, Levin, was groomsman. On leaving the church, the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe by her small liephew, Graeme Heney. After the ce/emony, Mr. and Mrs. Downing, assisted by Mrs. McKinstry, received the guests at the Pasadena Tearooms, where a jolly reception was held. On the bridal table was a three-tiered wedding cake, which had been made by the bride's mother. The bride's mother wore a black suit, relieved with white accessories, and a clover shoulder spray. The bridegroom's mother wore a black frock, with white and black accessories, and a red shoulder spray. When Mr. and Mrs. Tong left for their honeymoon, which was spent in the north, the bride wore a dusky pink frock and hat with black accessories. The bridegroom's giffc to the bride was a fur coat. Mr. and Mrs. Tong will 4 make their future home in Levin.
