U.S. ISLAND DEMANDS Keeeived Friday 9.35 p.m. v GANKHRRA, March 15. Australia, is standing flrmly against the United States' demand for control ovgr basds' within the Commonwealth's jtirisdiction. Dismissing the suggestions that Australia sliould take part in the preliminary discussions on the alloeation of hases to America Mr. Chifley said hluntly today: "We are not going to deal with the question piecemeal. It will he dealt with in the tirst place in London. We are not tiddley-winking ahout with it. W want it on a broad basis. ' ' This attitude endorses the stateinent hy Dr. Evatt that the Commonwealth will enter into no commitmeiits whieh ta'-c from the Australian people control over their own territories. It is understood that reciprocity is as far as Australia is prepaxed to go.
