Dismissing the suggestions that Australia sliould take part in the preliminary discussions on the alloeation of hases to America Mr. Chifley said hluntly today: "We are not going to deal with the question piecemeal. It will he dealt with in the tirst place in London. We are not tiddley-winking ahout with it. W want it on a broad basis. ' ' This attitude endorses the stateinent hy Dr. Evatt that the Commonwealth will enter into no commitmeiits whieh ta'-c from the Australian people control over their own territories. It is understood that reciprocity is as far as Australia is prepaxed to go.
