LAWN TENNIS

OTAKI PLAY OHAU Otaki and Ohau Clubs met at tennis in Otaki durfng last weekend and some very interesting play was witnessed. The home side was without the services of their two top players, Mrs. Bell and Atmore. The visitors' team included the Horowhenua representatives, namely Misses Karauti, Watts and Benning, so things did not look , too bright for the home side. However, they stuck to their task gamely, and if the light had not failed.they most likely would have had an outright win. All the ladies played exceptionally well, while F. Smith, a newcomer to the team, piayed well. Thie "old horse," B. Ryder, showed that he can still hit thern when his team is fighting for games. Results are as fohows, with Otaki players being mentioned first in each instance: — Men's singles: Jepson lost to E. Watts 2—9, B. Ryder beat H. Benning 9—6, B. Rhodes v. P. Royal 11—10 (unfinished) , F. Smith beat S. Atkins 9 — 7. Ladies' ~ singles: Miss V. Taylor lost to Miss Karauti 11—13, Miss M. Taylor lost to Miss Musso 7—9, Miss B.'
