Allied Casualties In Java clash with indonesians

Received Saturday, 11.15 a.m. BATAVIA, March 15. One British other rank was killed and one British tank disabled when a patrol encountered Indonesians in fortified houses and a concrete pill box near Semarang. An Allied Headquarters spokesman said the British and Indian casualties since the "battle of the convoys" in west' Java began last Saturday were seventeen killed and 105 wounded. One tank had been left behind, but it was taken into safe custody by Japanese troops. j Other tanks which were put out of action have been repaired with spare parts dropped by planes. A British military spokesman said there was definite evidence i that the Republican Army was j involved in the attack on the coni voy in the Soekaboemi area, but ! it wau not known whether it was j; with rhe knowledge of the Republican Superior Command.
A report from Bandoeng stated that three ambulances clearly marked tvith red crosses received particular attention from the attackers. A medical officer in one i ambulance was shot in the head.
