ENCOURAGING INDUSTRY

"PRO BONO PUBLICO."

Sir, — Some time ago the Mayor of Levin (Mr. Burdekin) extolled the value of the area of land to the south-east of the railway station as a locality for the concentration of secondary industry in the town, and advocated a move to secure it for that purpose. This view is shared by many, and with more industries moving from Wellington, Levin suggests itself as an ideally suitable springboard to the capital. Already some industries have, I understand, gone elswhere because they have come here and found that the encouragement and small amount of help they needed was not forthcoming. What the people want to know is whether the Borough Council has given any further consideration ".,o the Mayor's proposal, and i£ so what progress has been made. Too much dilly-dallying and delay will lose us opportunities. Yours etc.,

Levin, March 14.
