ITALIAN BRIDES ON BOARD TAMAROA
MELBOURNE, March 13. F'orty Italian brides and five fiancees accompanied New Zealand servicemeu who reached Melhourne today on the Tamaroa on its way to Wellington. There is also one Freiich, one Greek, and one Egyptian bride on hoard. Most of them are in their teens or early twenties. Many of them were married during. the New Zealanders' occupation of Trieste. Two of them are former medical students from Padua University. Most of them know little English and know nothing of New Zealand. Trooper Bryan Doyle (Wellington), one of the liusbands, made a plea^for cousideration on behalf of alien bildes of servicemen and asked that they be given the same reception by their adcpted countries as Britain gives. In marrying enemy soldiers, the girls had shown sincerity. Germans, had toid Italians hair-raising stories of what Colonial troops would do. Naturally most of the girls married against their parents' wishes. His wife, Mariella, had heen wounded twice in Allied air raids. ]
