New Hut for Tararuas

Fifty or more tfampers from the Masterton Y.M.C.A., the Hutt Valley Tramping Club, and the Tararua Tramping Club met last week-end to witness the opening of the new Cone Hutt by the president of the Tararua Club, Mr. Harold Douglas. The new hut, at the head of the Tauherenikau Valley, will . eliminate the use of the ancient- anddilapidated hut at Sherwoods. The large single room, with beds for 14, was built entirely by members of the Tararua Club, who carried the mateiial up. The erection was started in June of. last year. 'and the final touches were put in last Saturday, the day before the opening. The first hut of that name was built by members of the Forestry Department for their own use when workjing in the Cone Saddle. It is now beyond repair.
