FEDERATED FARMERS OF MANAWATU

The neeil for fuiler representation oe DominLon Council of Federated Farmors vvas advocated by Mr. V. Cottle (Otaki Te Horo) . when presenting to the Manawatu Provincial exeeutive ir. Palmerston Nortli yesterday, a report on the interim Dominion conferenec held at Wellington in February. Mr. Cottle said there were .14 seats on the eouncil and sevcral of the provincial districts were grouped into one seat. For instance, Manawatu, Wellington Central and Wanganui were in one group represented by Mr. Lloyd Hanimond. That representation may have been satisfactory in the days of the Farmers' Union but now Federateil Farmcrs was taking the place of the ITnion, the membership had leapt up enonnously and it was a physical impossi biliity for one rnaii to keep in t.ouch with such a wide range of activities as was now eneompassed. He thought the three provincial areas of Manawatu, Wanganui and Wellington Central should eaeh have a separate representative on the Dominion Couu cil. Mr. D. B. Rowe thought the representation should be on a membership basis. Branches were represented on the provincial executives on a membership basis. It was decidod to contact Wellington Central and Wanganui foi Iheir views on the subject. Mr. L. B. Wall (a vice-prcsident) presided in the absence of Mr. H. .J. McLeavey ( president). The meeting approved of the holding of the intcr-provincial conference at Wanganui in May. The annual conference of the Manawata Province will be lfeld 011 Wednes duy, May 15. The Wellington City Mission sent ari appeal for hlack fleeces, which is to be referred to branches for action.
